Wright's 2006 season was much similar to the one he had in 2005. He batted .311 with 26 home runs and 116 RBIs. He also stole twenty stolen bases getting caught five times and hit for five triples too. David was also named National League Co-Player of the Week along with teammate Jose Reyes and “Player of the Month” in June. It was also the same season where Wright had some very heroic moments. Such as, when he hit his first game-winning hit on May 5. It was two weeks later when he hit a walkoff single in rally which beat the New York Yankees. On May 29 he hit another single off the wall which scored Jose Reyes all the way from first base to win it 8-7 over the Arizona Diamondbacks. He was voted to the 2006 All-Star game and came in second to Ryan Howard in the 2006 Home Run Derby. On August 6, 2006 Wright signed a 6-year extension worth $55 million. To finish off the season he particpated in the Major League Baseball Japan All-Star Series.

So far this 2007 season Wright is batting .276 with eight home runs and 28 RBIs. He also has 12 stolen bases without getting caught. Wright also posted seven homeruns in the month of May and still is swinging a hot bat. He is ranked second of all major league third basemen too.
